Manchester homes, properly plastered

Most Manchester homes — whether it's a Victorian terrace in Chorlton, a 1930s semi in Didsbury, or a new-build apartment in the city centre — have their own quirks. We've worked on all of them. Lath-and-plaster ceilings, old lime walls, plasterboard partitions and modern thermal boarding all get treated the way they should be, not just skimmed over and hoped for the best.

We dust-sheet every room, vacuum on the way out, and leave walls paint-ready. Quotes are free, fixed and given in writing — no surprises.

Homeowner FAQs

Domestic plastering — common questions

Do you plaster whole houses or just single rooms?+

Both. We do everything from one patched ceiling to full-house re-skims during a renovation, and we can phase the work around you living in the property.

Will plastering make a lot of mess in my home?+

There is always some dust, but we sheet floors, mask fittings and doorways, and clear waste as we go. Most customers are surprised how tidy the job is.

Can you plaster a new extension or loft conversion?+

Yes. We plasterboard, tape, bead and skim new extensions, loft conversions and garage conversions to a paint-ready standard, and can coordinate around your builder's programme.

Do you install coving and cornice?+

Yes — plain modern coving through to traditional Victorian and Edwardian cornice profiles, including matching and repairing existing period run work.

Can you repair lath-and-plaster walls and ceilings?+

Yes. Manchester's Victorian and Edwardian housing is full of lath and plaster. Where it is sound we consolidate and skim; where it has failed we overboard or replace, keeping any period features.

How is plastering work in Manchester quoted?+

Every job is quoted individually after a site visit. What matters is the size of the room, ceiling height, access and how much prep or repair work is needed — so you get a fixed written quote rather than a rough figure over the phone.

How long does a room take to plaster?+

Most single rooms are skimmed in one day. A full house re-skim usually takes 3-7 working days, and damp proofing with replastering typically takes 2-3 days per affected wall.

How long before I can paint new plaster?+

Allow 3-7 days for fresh plaster to dry fully — longer in winter or on damp-proofed walls, which can need 2-4 weeks. Once it is a uniform pale colour with no dark patches, start with a mist coat of watered-down emulsion (roughly 70% paint, 30% water).

Do I need to move out while you plaster?+

No. We work room by room, sheet everything down and keep dust to a minimum, so you can stay in the property throughout. We only ask that the room being worked in is cleared of small furniture.

Are you insured and do you guarantee your work?+

Yes — we are fully insured with public liability cover on every job, and all workmanship is guaranteed. Damp proofing treatments carry a longer written guarantee, explained in your quote.
